Objective and Syllabus
Objectives of the course: The 9th grade English Honors course is designed to continue the development of English skills necessary for effective communication. Areas covered in the course include grammar (mechanics, usage, and sentence structure), writing (summaries, paragraphs, and essays), reading (short stories, nonfiction, poems, plays, and novels), speaking (discussion and presentation of papers), and a documented research essay each semester.
How you will learn in this course: Students will read novels, plays, poems, short stories and non-fiction. Students will learn through small groups, essays, projects and teacher-facilitated discussion that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies.
Why this course is important: A successful high school experience is grounded in a successful freshman year. This course will develop essential reading, writing and critical-thinking skills necessary for high school and college or career readiness.
