2D Drawing 1 - Course Information

 

What you will learn in this course: This is a course designed to introduce students to various drawing techniques: gesture drawing, contour drawings, measurements of proportion, and pencil shading.

 

How you will learn in this course: All drawing in this course is done from real-life observation. Basic volumes (boxes, spheres, etc) are used to introduce drawing techniques, and as skills are developed, more complex forms are introduced. Some written assignments and videos are given to introduce artists and art styles. A sketchbook is required to encourage practice of the various techniques.

 

Why this course is important: Good drawing skills are essential to the creation of most forms of art and can be an important way of communicating. Observational, problem solving, and organizational skills are also developed. A good background in drawing techniques can improve a student’s results in all other art classes, and is strongly recommended for anyone thinking of pursuing an art related career.


2D Drawing 2 - Course Information

 

This course is open to students who have completed the drawing 1 course.  This is a course designed to introduce students to various drawing media: ink, colored pencil, pastel, colored marker and charcoal to name a few. Students will also continue to work with graphite pencil.  Students will focus on still life drawing and photo reference projects.   Advancing from drawing 1, students will be allowed a greater choice of subject matter.

 

Drawing in this course is done from real-life observation and photo reference.   Students will be asked to create weekly sketchbook assignments in addition to their- in class project work.   Students will be expected to know their vocabulary and use it correctly in written assignments.  Most learning will occur through the actual creation of art projects.

Interemediate Drawing and Painting - Course Information

 

This course is for students who have completed Drawing 2 or Painting 2.  In this course students will explore and build upon the many creative aspects of drawing and painting together in one class.  Intermediate Drawing and Painting will build upon the concepts and principles set in Basic Drawing and Painting and Drawing and Painting 2 courses.

 

Drawing and painting in this course is done from real-life observation and photo reference.   Students will be asked to create weekly sketchbook assignments in addition to their- in class project work.   Students will be expected to know their vocabulary and use it correctly in written assignments.  Most learning will occur through the actual creation of art projects.

 

Why this course is important:  This class will help the student artist develop observational and problem solving skills, encourage creative thinking, help develop independent work skills and a continued appreciation of drawing and painting.  Observational problem solving and organizational skills are also developed.  Continuing to use good drawing skills like linear perspective and sighting in more complicated applications will be key to producing advanced compositions in this class.  Students will continue to explore acrylic and oil mediums and will be introduced to the art of watercolor painting.  Students will also explore other drawing mediums including, but not limited to, oil pastels, charcoal, conte crayons, colored pencils, brush pens and pen and ink.  The course will focus on the student’s ability to be original and creative in their compositions.  Most of the learning in this class will be from the actual creation of art projects.  The ability to incorporate a variety of styles and techniques into their own original work will be key to success in this class.
