T-Bird Boys' Basketball
|Welcome to the LUHS Boys' Basketball website. My name is Rich Fortier. I am currently in my seventh year as the head coach at Lakeland. We will enter the season with a couple of guys back from a team that posted a 17-7 record. Jon, Ray, Mason and Michael will be the leaders of our squad. Michael will be returning from an ACL injury which cost him his entire sophomore season. Ray and Mason will look to expand their scoring in their second full season at this level. Jon is the leading returning scorer from last year’s GNC players. We will need for him to continue to score the basketball for us to be successful. Collin and David got tremendous experience playing at the varsity last season and will both look to contribute greatly. Carter, Cody, Colton, Jacob, and Alex will round out our squad to begin the season. One or more of those guys could help us as the season progresses. Our hope is to continue to play a fast-paced, exciting brand of basketball that will be very enjoyable to watch. I know the boys enjoy this type of play as well.
Our assistants bring many years of experience working with young people. Brian Maki coached two teams that ended their respective seasons in Madison. There are two balls (one gold, one silver) in the trophy case to prove it. Brian will be our varsity assistant. Ian Schwanda will begin his basketball coaching career at the JV 1 level. We are excited about the infusion of youth (see: Ian) on our staff. Mike Mestelle is coaching our JV 2 team. We are excited to continue to have Mike's many years of experience (in many different sports) on our staff. Ed Johnson is coaching our JV 3 team. He is eager to hone his basketball acumen, while maintaining his skill in working with young adults. Gordon McGee is on our staff as a volunteer assistant as well. I am thankful for the quality men that make up our staff.
