DESCRIPTION: This course is available to all 9th graders who wish to further their musical training. The group participates in local concerts and district festivals.

COURSE: 18201 TREBLE CHOIR

DESCRIPTION: Participation in this course provides an opportunity for stu¬dents to sing in a Soprano Soprano Alto choral group ac¬cording to interest and ability. Through group singing and participation in local concerts and district festivals, the student achieves a better understanding and apprecia¬tion of music written for treble voices.
CREDIT VALUE: One-half credit (full year)

COURSE: 18301 CONCERT CHOIR

DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for the more advanced vocalist. Difficult and diversified Soprano Alto Tenor Bass choral literature is sung in local concerts as well as dis¬trict festivals.

COURSE: 18311 SWING CHOIR

DESCRIPTION: This is a performing choral group, which concentrates on swing and jazz literature. Students participate in local concerts, district festivals and perform throughout the community as well.

COURSE: 18321 MADRIGAL

DESCRIPTION: The course includes the performance of madrigal literature in local concerts, district festivals as well as for various community events. A Madrigal dinner is held each December.

COURSE: 18111 9TH GRADE BAND

DESCRIPTION: This course is available to 9th graders who wish to continue their musi¬cal training and to prepare for Concert Band. The group participates in concerts and festivals. It augments the varsity pep band at home athletic events.

COURSE: 18221 CONCERT BAND

DESCRIPTION: This course aims to broaden the musical experience and the background of all students who participate. The following are included: marching funda¬mentals; appreciation and performance; concerts; local, district and state music contests; and entertainment at athletic and community events. Every member has the opportunity to participate in full band experience. They will also participate in sectional practice and instruction and solo and ensemble play¬ing.

COURSE: 18121 JAZZ BAND

DESCRIPTION: The educational value of the jazz ensemble in high school music warrants its inclusion in the curriculum. Its purpose is to acquaint musically interested students with character styles and representative literature of this important segment of American culture. This is to be accomplished through per¬formance of the literature itself and also a study of improvisation, which is probably the ultimate aim of the course.

COURSE: 18130 MUSIC THEORY AND COMPOSITION
DESCRIPTION: This course is a non-performing class. The course is designed to further the study of musical elements. Computer based and programmed material will include exercises in sight singing, ear training, harmony and composition. This course is for students who want to understand how music is written.
CREDIT VALUE: One-half credit (semester)
